Theatre as a computer game – Machina eX
Machina eX is a performance network from the German cities Hildesheim and Berlin which stages theatrical Point-and -Click -Adventures. They base their work on the procedure of classical computer games where the player has the task to solve riddles and find information, talks to other players and thus brings the plot forward. Machina eX transfers this type of game into reality and real people take the role of the virtual players in rooms that are equipped with complex electronic devices such as sensors and computer programs.
In its productions, Machina eX intends to relate certain ways of theatrical and aesthetical performance to the principles of computer games. Together with the performers, the audience acts as players and is integrated into the plot without being pushed into the centre of attention. Thus, each performance becomes an unforgettable experience, somewhere between computer game, theatre and interactive installation.
At the festival, Machina eX will perform the production 15´000 Gray which plays in a laboratory where an innovative invention risks falling into wrong hands.
15´000 Gray was awarded with the jury prize by Hebbel am Ufer, a theatre institution near Berlin, and was invited to the international Theatre Festival Impulse.
